Sanren Suisha (Triple Water Wheel)

Beautiful LandscapeCulture & History
This is Japan's oldest working water turbine, installed over 230 years ago. It was built to save farmland from droughts and floods. The water wheel that irrigates the fields higher than the river is rebuilt every 5 years without using nails. It is an important piece of equipment, along with the irrigation canal and Yamada Weir. Be careful on when you choose to go and see it, as it is removed during periods of non-operation.
*Illuminated from 19:30 to 21:30 during the Obon Festival (mid-August)
