Iwaya Shrine (Hoshu-seki stone at Iwaya Park, Hari-no-Mimi*)
Beautiful LandscapeCulture & History
A shrine where the Hoshu-seki stone, said to make wishes come true, is enshrined. It is said that the stone fell, shining brightly, from the sky in A.D 547. Also that you will lose your eyesight if you directly see the stone, so it is wrapped in kaya (congon grass) and carefully preserved. The surrounding area including the shrine is a Quasi-National Park. A space where you can become nothing in nature. It was also used as a place for ascetic training in Shugen-do, Japanese ascetic and shamanistic practice in mountainous sites.
